Grand County High School student Kaiya Moore is the winner of the Moab Self Storage 2026 Student Art Contest, earning a $1,000 scholarship for her original design. Her artwork is now on permanent display outside our facility at 1081 S. Main St. in Moab.

A Truck, a Desert Highway, and a Winning Design

Kaiya's winning artwork pairs a bright blue C10 pickup truck with one of the most recognizable views in Utah: the stretch of Highway 163 approaching Monument Valley, where the road runs straight toward red rock buttes beneath a large orange sun.

The truck was a deliberate choice. "I chose a C10 truck as the main focus of the artwork, representing one of the biggest car shows in Moab," Kaiya said in a statement. "Its bright color stands out against the warm desert tones, helping guide the viewer's eye throughout the painting while giving the scene a calm yet powerful feeling."

Eight Entries, One Winner

The 2026 Student Art Contest invited Grand County High School students to create original artwork inspired by Moab's landscape, culture, and character. Eight students submitted entries, with work highlighting the area's scenery, outdoor recreation, and community traditions.

Moab Self Storage selected Kaiya's piece from those eight submissions and announced the winner on July 30. She receives the scholarship as a check intended to support educational pursuits of her choosing.

The winning design is not going into storage. It is installed outside our facility at 1081 S. Main St., where neighbors and visitors driving through downtown Moab can see it as a permanent part of the property.

"The artwork captures the spirit of Moab in a way that residents and visitors alike can appreciate, and we're proud to showcase it as a permanent part of our facility," said Michael Fishman, co-owner of Moab Self Storage.

Supporting Young Artists in Moab

Grand County High School art teacher Christa Green championed the contest with her students, encouraging them to participate and to think about how their work could represent the community.

"I appreciate when local businesses create real-world opportunities for our students," Green said. "This project challenged them to capture Moab's culture through bright, vibrant designs while giving them the chance to see their ideas come to life."

That is exactly why we ran the contest: to support young artists here in Moab and to create a lasting display that reflects the community we are part of. You can read the full story in the Moab Times-Independent, and learn more about the school at the Grand County School District.
